Responsibilities

Summary 

The Refrigeration Mechanic troubleshoots, repairs and maintains refrigeration units and mechanical equipment 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Observes and tests system operation using gauges and instruments. 
  • Tests lines, components, connections for leaks, and proper refrigerant pump down if applicable. 
  • Adjusts or replaces worn or defective mechanisms and parts and reassembles repaired systems. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance on Facilities equipment (i.e. boilers, air compressors, hydraulics, wastewater treatment, freezers). 
  • Installs wiring to connect components to an electric power source. 
  • Keeps record of repairs and replacements made and causes of malfunctions utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Qualifications

 Required Qualifications 

  • Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 2 years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Current R.E.T.A. or Refrigeration certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire. 

 

Preferred Education & Experiences: 

  • 2 years experience using general refrigeration competencies including but not limited to ammonia systems repair.  
  • Similar industry experience 
  • CARO or CIRO (RETA) Certification 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): 

  • Ability to request and communicate parts and tools needed to effectively complete tasks. 
  • Ability to interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams to troubleshoot system issues. 
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot electrical/mechanical aspects of Ammonia refrigeration equipment, including evaporators, compressors, condensers, and piping systems. 
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with other departments, managers, and technicians. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems. 

 

Work environment:  

The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 

 

Work Ability Requirements: 

Ability to work around a production line with machinery and moving parts.

Pay Range

USD $29.00 - USD $39.66 /Hr.
